What do you wear for a job interview?

We are happy to give you some tips that might help!

What’s best for you to wear to a job interview? If you’re a woman, would the bright red suit be best, or maybe something a bit more sober? And if you’re a man, do you really need to wear a three-piece suit? Sadly, there are no set rules for this, but here are 5 tips from us that might help.

Wear something you feel comfortable in

The most important thing is for you to feel comfortable with what you’re wearing. Don’t just rush off to a friend and borrow something that doesn’t suit you, simply because you think it might create a better impression. Better to pick something from your own wardrobe that you enjoy wearing.

Try to find out what the dress code is

You might find some clues as to a company’s dress code on its website or in its corporate presentation. Maybe hunt down some photos of the managers on the company’s website. If they’re not wearing suits and ties, then there’s no reason for you to do so either.

Make sure your clothes don’t distract the interviewer

Ideally, recruiters want to see a candidate who’s well turned-out, but short skirts and heavy aftershave are not recommended! Dress carefully, but don’t overdo it. A deep décolletage or a bold print will distract attention from what you’re actually saying, and, at the end of the day, what you say is what counts the most!

Fit the clothes to the job

People are expected to dress differently for a variety of jobs. Many companies will expect an engineer to be wearing a smart suit, whereas less formal clothing would be acceptable if you’re applying for a job in the creative industries. Generally speaking, the rule is that it’s better to look a bit too formal than not formal enough.

Look after your clothes

Whatever you wear, make sure you create a well-groomed impression. Stains or holes in your clothes are out of the question. Polish your shoes before you go for the interview, and brush or comb your hair to give the right impression.

We hope you’ll find the right outfit, and wish you every success!
