Het Agentschap beheert aldus de federale staatschuld (553 miljard euro in december 2025). Als instelling van openbaar nut valt het onder het gezag van de Minister van Financiën. Daarnaast ondersteunt het Agentschap de publiekrechtelijke instelling Hedera bij het beheer van activa die geïnvesteerd worden op de financiële markten teneinde op zeer lange termijn de kosten met betrekking tot het beheer van nucleair afval te dekken.
