The U.S. Embassy in Brussels is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Human Resources Assistant working from the Human Resources Office on the U.S. Embassy compound in Brussels.
Incumbent is directly responsible for the coordination and administration of the Tri-Missions’ check-in and check-out programs, processes, and policies relating to the assignment (check-in/out, diplomatic title, accreditation, transfer, benefits, etc.) and family member support (work permits, long-term visas, MOH, etc.) of direct-hire American officers at the Tri-Missions. Additionally, this position is accountable for accuracy and completeness of all American Direct-Hire positions and employee data within Overseas Personnel System, and position management in general, to include local staff positions. Position has an advisory role to American officers on Belgian and Post regulations.
Incumbent's busiest period of the year is from May through October due to rotation in assignments of the direct-hire American officers.
Education: Two years of post-secondary education required.
Experience: At least three years of previous administrative assistant work experience, with focus on customer service, is required.
Language Skills: Fluency in English, working knowledge in French and Dutch.
Job Knowledge: Ability to quickly become knowledgeable about the Tri-Mission’s organizational structure, functions, and agencies, American direct-hire benefits, and the processing/administration of the various components. Must quickly become knowledgeable and be able to apply the Vienna Convention, the SOFA Agreement, the Bilateral Work Agreement, and local rules for taxes and visas.
Skills and Abilities: Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel & Access). Well-developed written and oral communication skills. Considerable tact, diplomacy and strong communication skills essential in the person-to-person contact with American personnel and their families. Very good customer service skills. Good typing skills.
