As a researcher, you will advise industry and policy makers operating at Flemish and international level on the development of their long-term energy and climate strategy.
You will contribute to the further development of techno-economic optimisation and simulation models for the energy system with a focus on ‘Power to x’, ‘carbon capture and utilisation’, and the (petro)chemical and steel sector.
You will be using internationally developed software such as VEDA-TIMES, among other tools.
You will interpret the model results and on this basis and formulate scientific recommendations tailored to the client's needs. You will report the research results to our clients (authorities and industry) and to the scientific community.
You will actively expand your knowledge of energy system/strategy/models on the basis of literature, courses and on-the job experience. Within your area of expertise involving energy modelling, you will be an active follower of the trends and the studies carried out by other consultants, research institutions and universities.
You will work in a team, but will also carry out research projects independently.
You will help identify routes for new developments, taking up an active role in exploring research questions for industrial sectors and federations.
You will assist in writing client offers, research proposals and seeking funding opportunities.
Above all you will help envision the role of established and innovative technologies in the Belgian and European energy system the day after tomorrow!
You hold at a minimum a Masters degree, ideally in engineering, and have preferable gained already some work experience.
You are passioned about the role of technology in international energy and climate strategy, and have the required expertise to approach the challenges from a systemic (quantitative) perspective. You can synthesise and present results in verbal and written format as recommendations for authorities and industrial clients.
You are willing to quickly accrue the required expertise in technical and economic aspects of environmental/energy technologies, and mathematical optimisation methods (linear programming).
Knowledge of energy system models (like VEDA TIMES) and experience with consultative assignments for authorities and/or industry are a plus.
Analytical thinking, entrepreneurship and scientific curiosity are second nature to you.
You have strong communication skills both in writing and speaking.
You have a good knowledge of the English language.
