The Legal Department of BNP Paribas Fortis is composed of approx. 80 persons. We are looking for a Finance and Capital Markets lawyer to support the bank’s corporate and retail banking operations.
Financing and capital markets activities
Financing and capital markets activities at BNP Paribas Fortis cover a large variety of business lines.
Financing: the businesses of Export Finance, Project Finance, Corporate Acquisition Finance, Leveraged Finance and Loan Syndication. The geographic scope covers a major part of EMEA (Europe, Middle-East and Africa).
Capital Markets: Derivatives, Repo, Securities Lending and Structured Finance, Debt and Equity Capital Markets, Commercial Paper, Securitisation and Asset Liability Management.
Your future job
The position will involve advising and supporting the development of the above mentioned business activities. As a transactional lawyer, you will be exposed to a wide variety of transactions management where you will be involved from the project's inception through to completion. You will be requested to provide legal and regulatory advices in the context of those transactions but also more generally to the businesses and other support functions. You will have to monitor the legal and market developments and you may be requested to support the management of litigations connected to your business.
You will work in several teams and you will be trained to manage progressively on your own the different above mentioned activities.
We are looking for a candidate with strong drafting, negotiating and advisory skills.

The successful candidate is a qualified lawyer replying to the following:
Master Degree in Law.
Strong academic credentials
Willing to work and learn in the multiple domains of Finance and Capital Markets
Previous relevant experience in banking and financial law and/or capital markets is a plus.
Good verbal and written communication skills in English, French and Dutch.
Legal analytic skills. Ability to analyse legal issues quickly and to provide comprehensive solutions.
Strong organizational and negotiation skills.
Able to work independently and accurately with attention to detail.
A team-player who is willing to share know-how and to cooperate with the other lawyers.
Ability to manage several tasks whilst working under pressure.
