StepStone launches a platform for Company Reviews to bring applicants closer to their future employers
The jobsite StepStone has launched Company Reviews — a content platform that lets people share feedback about their current and previous employers with job applicants. It's yet another way that StepStone is improving the candidate experience in the war for talent.

A recent StepStone survey on jobseekers’ expectations revealed a clear tendency in candidates’ behaviour:  80% look for information about a company’s benefits, mission, values and culture before applying for a job. What’s more, according to VDAB, only 70.5% of jobs were filled last year, despite the fact that there are plenty of open vacancies on the market. These findings indicate that the war for talent in the job market is still going strong, and that candidates are now firmly in the driving seat.

The next milestone in supporting candidates

Virginie Nazon, Head of Marketing at StepStone

Last year StepStone released Company Profile, a multimedia platform that gives candidates greater insight into companies’ employee benefits, location and application process.

With Company Reviews we’ve gone a step further, giving candidates transparency about what it’s really like to work for a company.

Social media and sites like TripAdvisor empower their users to post, share and search for reviews. Jobseekers — who are in a strong position in today’s job market — have similar priorities: they want as much information as possible in order to make more informed decisions.

The power of jobseekers in today’s job market inspired the development of this new feature.

“People will be sharing their thoughts and work experiences anyway, so our goal is to provide a space where reviews can be exchanged in a constructive way for both jobseekers and recruiters,” explains Virginie Nazon, Head of Marketing at StepStone.

On the new Company Reviews platform, employees can score current and previous employers on criteria such as company culture, training and development, and work/life balance. Taken together, these reviews will show what makes the company stand out, and will be used to calculate a concrete rating.

StepStone will ensure that every review undergoes rigorous quality-checking by a real person before publication, to prevent unsubstantiated or unconstructive content appearing on the platform.

Feedback: indispensable for companies

Camille De Buysscher, HR Manager at StepStone

In the current market context, there’s a growing need for more employer branding. “Recruiters want and need to differentiate themselves,” says Camille De Buysscher, HR Manager at StepStone.

Reviews provide companies with valuable feedback as well as fresh insights that can help them improve their employer image and acquire talented candidates. Equally importantly, giving employees the ability to provide feedback from employees emphasises the need to satisfy current employees.”

To guide employers through this new feature, StepStone will be organising a series of breakfast info sessions over the coming months. They’ll help recruiters understand how to take full advantage of this free communication platform to showcase their employer brand.

StepStone is currently collecting and quality-checking company reviews, to ensure a fully populated platform by the summer.
